The husband of a Colorado woman who vanished Monday with her two daughters has been charged with murder, and police have recovered a body they believe to be that of the missing mom, authorities said early Thursday morning.

Chris Watts is facing three charges each of first-degree murder and tampering with evidence, reports CBS Denver.

The body of his wife Shanann Watts, 34, was found earlier Thursday (US time) at the Anadarko oil and gas site where her husband Christopher once worked near their home in Frederick, on the northern outskirts of Denver, the Daily Mail reported.

Chris Watts, Shannan's husband, said he last saw his wife at 5.15am before he left for work.

Chris Watts spoke previously with The Denver Channel and pleaded for his family's safe return.

When asked if he thought his wife just took off, Watts responded: "Right now, I don't want to just throw anything out there".

He said he knew her parents well and had known Shanann since she was a teenager. Arnold said she moved to Colorado around the same time as Watts.

The two planned to meet later, but Watts, 34, didn't answer her phone or show up for a doctor's appointment, the friend said. When no one answered, he became anxious, he told KUSA.
