My Security Revocation is Trump Attempt to Silence Critics — Former CIA Chief

William Mc Raven testifies during his confirmation hearing before the Senate Armed Services Committee on Capitol Hill

A retired US Navy admiral who oversaw the raid that killed Osama bin Laden has told Donald Trump he would be honoured if the 45th President would yank his security clearance just like he did to former Central Intelligence Agency director John Brennan.

Brennan has been sharply critical of Trump, calling his comments after meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin last month, "nothing short of treasonous".

But Trump said Wednesday he is reviewing the clearances of several other former top intelligence and law enforcement officials, including former FBI Director Comey and current senior Justice Department official Bruce Ohr.

"I don't trust many of those people on that list", Trump said Wednesday.

The White House said Wednesday that security clearances are under review for former U.S. National Intelligence director James Clapper, former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey, former Obama administration National Security adviser Susan Rice, former National Security Agency director Michael Hayden and former Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates. "I think they're not good people". All but one no longer serve in the United States government and it includes several noteworthy Trump adversaries, including former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey and former Acting Attorney General Sally Yates.

Trump on Wednesday openly tied his decision to strip Brennan of his clearance - and threaten almost a dozen other former and current officials - to the ongoing investigation into Russian election meddling and possible collusion with his campaign. U.S. Representative Joaquin Castro said Mueller should also investigate the issue now that Trump has tied it to the Russian Federation probe.

At least two of the former officials, Comey and McCabe, do not now have security clearances, and none of the eight receive intelligence briefings.

Rep. Nancy Pelosi, the House Democratic leader, says Trump's move is a "stunning abuse of power".

Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr said in a statement that if Brennan's conclusion that the Trump campaign colluded with Russians was based on intelligence he has seen since leaving office, "it constitutes an intelligence breach".

One Republican who bucked the party line was Sen.

"It feels very much like a banana republic kind of thing", Corker said.

"Like most Americans, I had hoped that when you became president, you would rise to the occasion and become the leader this great nation needs", McRaven wrote.

John Kennedy of Louisiana was more explicit in describing Brennan: "I think I called him a butthead and I meant it".
