McSally ousts Ward, Arpaio in Arizona's GOP Senate primary

If Gillum becomes governor in Florida and Democrats win majority control of the U.S. House in the midterm elections, his victory nearly certainly means the Democrats will lose whatever inhibitions they may have about impeaching the president.

US Representative Ron DeSantis, a staunch supporter of President Donald Trump who won his party's nomination on Tuesday, made the remarks on Fox News and immediately came under fire for their negative racial undertones.

The race, in the country's biggest swing state, is a sign of the increasing polarisation among voters during the Trump administration with sharp divides over issues like immigration, the environment and health care.

Gillum was backed by progressives including U.S. Sen. And Gillum now has the backing of two billionaires in George Soros and Tom Steyer - and expect the money to flow inside and outside the state on both sides as the general election kicks into high gear.

As the race wore on, Gillum's progressive stances on Medicare for All, education spending and the $15 minimum wage won over the left flank of the Democratic Party.

Rep. Martha McSally (R., Ariz.) embraced Trump on the campaign trail to win the Arizona U.S. Senate Republican primary and easily beat challengers from the hard right who had engendered considerable controversy: Sheriff Joe Arpaio and State Senator Kelli Ward.

However, Democratic Senator Bill Nelson, who is running for re-election against outgoing Republican Governor Rick Scott in November, wrote on Twitter that "Comments like DeSantis's are unacceptable in civilized discourse".

Trump relents under pressure, lowers White House flag again to honour McCain
But farewell addresses always offer a redeeming hope, a renewable source of strength we can draw upon to get through hard times. McCain refused, and endured torture to send a message to his captors. "I thought I would do much better than I did, " he said.

"It has zero to do with race", DeSantis said. He entered the governor's race a month after Trump's December tweet that he would make "a GREAT governor". Republicans plan to use an FBI investigation of Tallahassee's municipal government against Gillum, though he's not directly been named a subject.

Gillum did pull off an impressive win, though, one that surprised even him.

In an interview with Fox News correspondent Sandra Smith, DeSantis shared his thoughts on Gillum, referring to him as an "articulate spokesman for far left views".

Gillum has emphasized his working class roots. At the age of 23, Gillum was elected to the Tallahassee City Commission in 2003. But he had prominent elected officials - including Congressman Alcee Hastings, Miramar Mayor Wayne Messam and state Rep. Shevrin Jones, D-West Park, strongly advocating on his behalf. But Gillum took the most liberal positions on most issues - and forcefully advocated that a genuine, progressive stance was the way for Democratic candidates to win elections.

As a 23-year-old student at the historically black Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (Famu), Gillum championed a people-first approach to politics and more funding for education during his successful campaign to be the youngest person ever elected to Tallahassee's city commission.

From the beginning of the campaign, he visited African-American churches.

Ducey will now face off against his Democrat opponent, Arizona State University professor David Garcia, in November.
