Blood Pressure medication may contain wrong pills

Accord Healthcare

Accord Healthcare has recalled one lot of 12.5-milligram hydrochlorothiazide pills for the reason that one hundred-depend bottle became came upon to accept as true with one hundred spironolactone pills.

A specific lot of blood pressure medication has been recalled after a bottle from that lot was found to be mislabeled, according to a Food and Drug Administration statement.

A drug maker has announced a voluntary recall of one of its medications used for treatment of hypertension.

But, as the website noted, spironolactone can treat low potassium levels.

Use of spironolactone tablets instead of hydrochlorothiazide tablets poses the risk of contracting hyperkalemia (increase potassium levels) in certain people.

So far, Accord has received no reports of anyone getting sick.

Meanwhile, Hydrochlorothiazide is used "as the sole therapeutic agent or to enhance the effectiveness of other antihypertensive drugs in the more severe forms of hypertension".

Alberta leaving federal climate plan over Trans Mountain decision
Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson said the decision validates his city's concerns about marine impacts and Indigenous consultation. The brief meeting in Calgary was chaired by the CEO of both Kinder Morgan Canada Inc. and its USA parent, Steven Kean.

The effects of mixing up the medications - both help bodies get rid of extra salt and water - depend on the individual but can range from "limited" to "life-threatening", FDA officials said.

No injuries have been reported, the FDA said. Hydrochlorothiazide treats high blood pressure and fluid retention, says

Medication in that lot is now under a voluntary recall.

The hydrochlorothiazide tablets are round, orange, and have "H" and "1" printed on opposite sides.

Accord says "If you are in possession of Accord Hydrochlorothiazide that does not match this image or if you are unsure, please return to your pharmacy or healthcare provider for confirmation".

Not all drugs containing valsartan are being recalled, but this week the FDA expanded the list of drugs being recalled.
