Miss America contestant says Trump is 'the biggest issue our country faces'

Upon taking over at the helm of the Miss America Organization last winter following an email scandal in which former top leaders denigrated the appearance, intellect and sex lives of former Miss Americas, Carlson and Hopper set out to transform the organization, dubbing it "Miss America 2.0". According to the AP, she replied, "Donald Trump is the biggest issue our country faces. Unfortunately he has caused a lot of division in our country".

The judges were so impressed with her answer, she was awarded the $1,000 prelim onstage question scholarship. She claims she was ridiculed for her clothing choices, muscled out of interviews and appearances, and almost banned from the nationally televised 2018 broadcast. Taveras was asked how Americans traveling overseas should interact with those in other countries.

She said it is important to let people in other nations know that, "We as Americans are supporting them and that we are there to help them".

The swimsuits are gone, but there has been plenty of controversy surrounding this year's competition that could keep viewers tuning in.

Today marked the third and final night of preliminary competition in the Miss America competition.

Tonight 23-year-old opera singer Nia Imani Franklin who competed in the competition as Miss New York won the title of Miss America 2019 becoming the 92nd victor of the title, which concluded on live TV Sunday evening in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

During the first two nights of competition, some of the onstage interview questions have touched on hot button issues, including NFL national anthem protests.

She elaborated, saying, "It's very important that we also have to take into consideration that it is not about kneeling: It is absolutely about police brutality".

Franklin, 24, wowed judges when she performed an opera song during the talent portion of the competition. The second runner-up was Miss Louisiana Holli' Conway - a clear audience favorite throughout the evening - winning $20,000 in scholarships.
