United States residents have been warned to prepare for the hurricane's impact. Mandatory evacuation orders also were issued for more than 50,000 people from Hatteras and Ocracoke, the southernmost of North Carolina's Outer Banks barrier islands. Fallen trees and power poles will isolate residential areas. The state's emergency management agency said it is "preparing for the possibility of a large-scale disaster".

The farther south the center of Florence is able to move, the windier it will be here in central Georgia.

The tropics were slow to wake up this year, but they have certainly come to life in a big way in over the last week.

In Jacksonville, North Carolina, about 20 miles (32 kilometers) inland, some residents picked up hurricane supplies during their normal weekend shopping, The Daily News reported. On its current track, the storm could make landfall around the Carolinas on Thursday or Friday.

Winds will begin hitting the Carolina coast 8 p.m. Wednesday and the middle of the two states by 8 a.m. That storm was centred 185 km south southeast of the islands. Myrtle Beach Mayor Brenda Bethune urged people to secure their homes but said it was too early to know if evacuations will be ordered. It could be cooler Sunday, if the storm remnants move into our area.

This, unfortunately will mean that Florence has a much higher chance of affecting the US east coast by later in the week. The storms are two of three hurricanes now spinning in the Atlantic. People in coastal communities are taking all precautions.

Generators, bottled water and snacks were flying off the shelves of area retailers over the weekend as forecasts called for higher chances that Hurricane Florence could hit the area.

The hurricane's path was still far from certain Monday. Forecasters predicted it would become a unsafe Category 4 storm before a possible landfall Friday. "10.html">the school said in a statement posted online.

The National Hurricane Center forecasts Florence will be a risky major hurricane near the southeastern US coast by late next week, "and the risk of direct impacts continues to increase". It's not clear where or if Florence will make landfall, but the risk of direct impacts continues to increase, according to forecasters at the National Hurricane Center. If these disturbance become tropical storms, they will be named Helene and Isaac.
