Henry Cavill Reportedly Leaving DC Extended Universe As Superman

He returned to battle Ben Affleck's Dark Knight in 2016's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Cavill's departure as Superman reportedly comes after talks broke down between his agency and Warner Bros. over a cameo appearance in the upcoming Shazam movie.

The studio tried to Cavill to appear for a Superman cameo in "Shazam!", the comic book adaptation starring Zachary Levi, which debuts April 5.

U.S. rips Russia, Iran, Assad regime amid Idlib offensive
Idlib makes up a major chunk of Syria's northwest corner, the last bastion of opposition to President Bashar al-Assad. Now, the use of chemical weapons is a "red line" that, if crossed, will trigger US and European military response.

This is the latest blow to the troubled attempts to establish the Justice League movies in their own right, let alone as a credible box office rival to the Avengers franchise.

It's quite possible, then, that Warner Bros. will have both a new Superman and a new Batman, following persistent, almost two-year rumors that Ben Affleck is finished playing the Dark Knight. 'There's a recognition that some parts of the previous movies didn't work, ' says the studio insider. Following his brilliant turn in Mission: Impossible - Fallout and his appointment as Geralt of Rivia in Netflix's The Witcher show, it looks like the actor's time in the DC Extended Universe is coming to an end. Neither Cavill nor Warner Bros. have yet to confirm his departure. The studio was apparently not looking to make a solo Superman film in the immediate future - instead looking towards a Supergirl origin story.

It's easy to see why Superman fans might be shellshocked, as Cavill was the man that helped kick off DC's cinematic universe back in 2013. "This effectively removes an actor of Cavill's age from the storyline's equation given that Superman, aka Kal-El, would be an infant, according to DC lore".
