Tennis umpire finally speaks out on Serena Williams US Open outburst

Tennis umpire finally speaks out on Serena Williams US Open outburst

Many tennis fans and players are still debating whether sexism played a role in the penalty given to Serena Williams in her confrontation with an umpire during the U.S. Open final.

He added: "I depicted her [Osaka] as I saw her in photographs of the US Open". "The fact that I have to go through this is just an example for the next person".

Serena Williams was filthy with umpire Carlos Ramos in the US Open final. "And I think for Ramos, he was a little defensive at that point, and was fed up as opposed to saying, 'OK, let's get back to business'". "That's what sport is all about".

Mercurial Australian Nick Kyrgios ranted at Ramos at the same tournament after he was issued a code violation for shouting at a ball boy to pass him a towel.

"I'm fine, given the circumstances", he said.

Williams was issued a warning, point and then game penalty after she argued with Ramos during the final, which was won 6-2 6-4 by Japan's Naomi Osaka.

In response, umpires are reportedly threatening to boycott Williams' matches, as they feel that Ramos is being unfairly criticized for his conduct during the match, according to The Times of London.

Chicago Bears: The good, bad and ugly from Packers game
They spent the week determining his conditioning level and formulating a plan from there. He was welcomed to Chicago with great fanfare and billed as the star this team needed.

Condemnation has also highlighted how Osaka, who is of Japanese and Haitian descent, could be construed as a blonde, white woman in the image.

Williams, meanwhile, was fined £13,500 for her on-court behaviour. Both players were booed as they wept during an emotional trophy-presentation ceremony in which Williams asked the crowd to "make this the best moment we can".

Another thing I learned is that even elite "Gold Badge" umpires like Ramos who get assigned to the finals of Grand Slam tournaments get paid next to nothing to do so.

USTA President Katrina Adams said: "We watch the guys do this all the time, they're badgering the umpire on the changeovers, nothing happens".

Ramos, however, has spoken out about the incident for the first time in an interview with Tribuna Expresso in his native country, as the Spaniard cited he was content with the decisions he made as he does not pick and choose when to apply the rule book.

"But umpiring 'a la carte" is something that does not exist. "Don't worry about me". His remarks were reported by USA Today.

The discussion, he said, now should be not only why was Williams punished for fighting with the official but also why the male tennis players who said they've said worse to officials without outcome weren't penalized during those times.
