Trump rips Woodward, says book about White House is full of lies

President Donald Trump attends a meeting in the White House

In another part of the book, Mattis allegedly said that Trump had the understanding of a "fifth- or sixth-grader" of the situation on the Korean peninsula.

Woodward's latest work, Fear: Trump in the White House, paints a portrait of Trump as uninformed and mercurial.

"I don't think there's any one author", he told Fox News host Laura Ingraham on "The Ingraham Angle".

"Cohn cited no specific objections to Woodward's extensive reporting of his private views that Trump needed to be saved from his most risky impulses", Axios reports. Then the president says, "We're losing so much money and trade with South Korea and China and others".

Trump has called it "a joke.using now disproven unnamed and anonymous sources". Any book is going to be "selective", and whether the book is "misleading" is certainly debatable, though someone who worked inside the White House is hardly an objective observer. "It gives a date, it gives a time, who participates, most often the president himself and what he says".

In a series of Tweets Monday, the president continued to lash out at Woodward personally and his book's portrayal of Trump as a foul-mouthed and bumbling egotist.

President Donald Trump has condemned the book over its use of anonymous sources, but Woodward told The New York Times there was "no alternative" if the public wanted the truth. Neither of them says specific details or quotes offered by Woodward are wrong, mind you; they only say the overall picture is flawed.

He explained: 'That doesn't mean they won't try to do something...(I'll) deal with it as it comes.

Bannon called the piece "absolutely outrageous" and encouraged the Trump administration to figure out the people responsible for it.

"If he were advising Pence", Woodward adds, "Cohn would have had him do exactly that - stay out of it".

The book claims that Trump falsely suggested that McCain took an early-release from the PoW camp in Vietnam-something that Mattis quickly told the President wasn't true.
