Verizon 5G Home service coming to four cities from October 1

Verizon plans to launch 5G internet and TV service in Los Angeles in October

Verizon's 5G home broadband will go live on October 1st. In its 5G Home announcement Verizon said it expects to be the first carrier to offer 5G mobile service, though its rivals may have something to say about that.

Verizon 5G Home is only available in Houston, Indianapolis, Los Angeles and Sacramento, initially, and only in certain neighborhoods of those four cities. Instead of using the mobile 5G standard, Verizon will provide this service via mmWave technology, which uses the 30 to 300 GHz spectrum.

Now before you start jumping up and down in excitement and start hunting for 5G smartphones, we should caution that this is nota mobile 5G service. After that, Verizon Wireless customers with a qualifying smartphone plan will pay $50 per month for the home broadband service.

"Typical" download speeds will be around 300Mbps, and the max speed of almost 1Gbps will be available "depending on location", Verizon said. Those prices included taxes and fees, plus there are no annual contracts for 5G Home.

A closer look at 2017/18 crime stats across SA
Eastern Cape had five police stations - Mthatha (160), Bethelsdorp (127), KwaZakhele (104), Lusikisiki (97) and Ngqeleni (90). Murders of women spiked by 11% with 2930 murders reported in 2017-2018 compared with 2639 in the previous period.

USA operator Verizon is using the limited launch of a new fixed wireless access service to claim victory in the 5G race. In addition, Verizon will install the necessary hardware for free. Interested parties can order the service starting September 13 and take advantage of several early adopter perks including three free months of YouTube TV, a free Apple TV 4K or Google Chromecast Ultra device and free installation and equipment.

Early users of the service in those four cities will get it for free for the first three months.

Verizon and Ericsson in July further announced an expansion of their 4G LTE partnership, with the Swedish networking giant to deploy its 4G and 5G-ready radio system across multiple USA markets. Service speeds "should" fall around 300Mbps and may range up to 1Gbps, though that depends on the subscriber's location; there's no data caps.
