SpaceX changes plans to send tourists around the moon

After someone responded to the tweet by jokingly suggesting that Musk himself will be the passenger, the SpaceX CEO offered a hint about the person who is traveling, responding with a Japanese flag emoji.

It's not the same mission SpaceX founder Elon Musk outlined previous year.

SpaceX will send its first passenger around the Moon in a Big Falcon Rocket (seen in its original form).

This new mission, different from the one discussed by owner Elon Musk past year, would have one person fly around the moon in SpaceX's BFR launch vehicle.

No details have been revealed about who the passenger is and why they're flying, but SpaceX said it would reveal all on Monday.

Despite the excitement surrounding the announcement, space tourism has happened before.

China-Russia Week Long War Games — Growing Military Ties
North Atlantic Treaty Organisation has denounced the exercises as a rehearsal for a "large-scale military conflict". Some of the first exercises will revolve around anti-aircraft technology, according to Russia's defence ministry.

SpaceX has also set up a livestream for the announcement on Monday.

Virgin Galactic, founded by Richard Branson, is also working on developing commercial spacecraft to provide "suborbital spaceflights to space tourists", according to its website.

In June, it was revealed by the Wall Street Journal that SpaceX wouldn't be sending a couple around the moon on its Dragon spacecraft later this year, a promise that was touted in early-2017. Its design was first presented almost a year ago, and the concept boasted a single system that included a booster and a ship that could travel to the moon and Mars.

The company first made plans to fly two private citizens around the moon in February of 2017 using the company's Falcon Heavy rocket and Dragon capsule, but those plans have apparently been revised.

The names and identities of those two tourists - and how much they meant to pay - were never revealed.

The tourist will fly in the Big Falcon Rocket (BFR) being created to carry people into deep space, the Elon Musk led company said in a tweet. The window for launching to Mars occurs every two years.
