Border Patrol agent arrested accused of killing four women

A U.S. Customs and Border Patrol officer was arrested on Saturday and will be charged in the deaths of four women in Texas and the abduction of a fifth.

Alaniz said that Ortiz will face four murder charges and one count of aggravated kidnapping, according to KGNS. Ortiz was arrested in the parking lot of a hotel where he was attempting to hide, Webb County Sheriff Martin Cuellar said at a press conference.

The victims, including a transgender woman, had been murdered since September 3.

He said investigators had "very strong evidence" that Mr Ortiz was behind the killings. He said authorities are still trying to pinpoint a motive for the killings, but that all of the women worked as prostitutes. Nationalities of the others are not yet known. Authorities said they believe Ortiz acted alone.

A United States border patrol agent who authorities called "serial killer" has confessed to four murders after his arrest.

A border agent was arrested early Saturday in South Texas by officials searching for a serial killer in the Laredo area. Federal prosecutors said the agent, Salvador Contreras, 50, sent child-porn images to an undercover agent whom Contreras believed was the mother of 8-year-old and 14-year-old girls.

Authorities said that nearly had no doubt that Ortiz was behind the gruesome acts, with Webb County Sheriff Martin Cuelllar stating that police are in possession of "very strong evidence" implicating Ortiz. A second victim, Claudine Anne Luera, was found alive but died at the hospital.
