Anita Hill Speaks Out On Sexual Misconduct Allegations Against Brett Kavanaugh

It stems from an alleged incident 35 years ago when Kavanaugh was likely a junior in high school, though his accuser said she could not be sure of the precise year or location of the alleged attack. Ford said she chose to come forward and tell her story after a bare-bones version of the events became public without her name and consent, prompting a denial from Kavanaugh and throwing his nomination into turmoil.

The Judiciary Committee is now due to vote on the nomination on September 20.

The report adds that Ford told no one of the incident in any detail until 2012, when she was in couples therapy with her husband.

Ford first contacted the Post in early July, the newspaper reported, when it became clear that Kavanaugh was on U.S. President Donald Trump's shortlist to replace Justice Kennedy.

In an interview with The Post, she reiterated and elaborated on the claims made in the letter sent to Feinstein and Eshoo, saying that Kavanaugh pinned her down on a bed and groped her over her clothes while attempting to undress her, as a friend of his watched.

"For me, we can't vote until we hear more", Flake told the Washington Post.

"The Senate has a constitutional responsibility to scrutinize SCOTUS nominees", Harris said.

The Post said when it sought comment on Sunday, the White House forwarded a statement Kavanaugh issued last week: "I categorically and unequivocally deny this allegation. I did not do this back in high school or at any time", his statement said.

The Judiciary Committee, which has finished confirmation hearings for Kavanagh, still plans to vote next Thursday on whether to recommend that he be confirmed by the full Senate, a spokesman said.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) said Sunday he was working on setting up bipartisan calls to keep Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation on track. Ford's husband, Russell Ford, says he remembers hearing Kavanaugh's name in the therapy sessions. She says that Kavanaugh and a friend forced her into a secluded bedroom during a party in the early 1980s.

"I never saw Brett act that way", Judge said.

In considering their options, Republicans largely settled on the view that Ms Ford's story alone was not enough to delay Mr Kavanaugh's confirmation. But as the media pressed the matter further, even showing up at her place of employment, Ford said she knew the can of worms had been opened - and there was no way it would be closed ever again.

Ford's allegations follow what was reported by the New Yorker on Friday: At a party in high school, Kavanaugh and a schoolmate (both of whom vehemently deny the allegations) got her into a room. Ford named two other teenagers who she said were at the party.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minnesota, said she expects Ford's claims "to be seriously investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation before we vote". "I did not do this back in high school or at any time".

In a statement released to United States media, Kavanaugh rejected the woman's claim, made in a letter to the Democrats vetting his nomination, that he tried to force himself on her during a party.
