Four dead following shootout in Mexico City's 'mariachi' plaza

Three shot dead in popular Mexico City tourist plaza

Plaza Garibaldi borders one of Mexico City's most notorious neighborhoods, Tepito, home to La Union gang that police blame for rising drug dealing in the capital.

At least five people have been killed after gunmen dressed as a mariachi band opened fire in a Mexico City plaza.

Local authorities said it was unclear why the men opened fire.

People in Plaza Garibaldi screamed and ran when they heard shots around 10pm on Friday, although some appeared unfazed by the gunfire.

Three men and two women, between 22 and 46 years old, died in the shooting, officials said.

Mexican news outlet La Silla Rota circulated surveillance video of the alleged assailants wearing traditional embroidered jackets and trousers as they fled on motorcycles.

Merger of BoB, Vijaya, Dena Bank to improve efficiency, governance: Moody's
The Vijaya Bank and Dena Bank now have more regional focus whereas Bank of Baroda has a widespread network across India. The meeting chaired by Jaitley was attended by Ministers Piyush Goyal and Nirmala Sitharaman.

The shootings happened just as the Mexican capital was kicking off independence day weekend celebrations. It is also the busiest time of year for Garibaldi Plaza, a beloved but seedy square that draws heavily on Mexican folklore. Mariachi musicians returned to the square around the same time the shooting took place a day prior.

In one video, a man plucking a large harp continues to belt out the Mexican civil war anthem "La Cucaracha" as dozens of gunshots can be heard in the background, though it isn't clear the musicians heard them.

The music and partying continued until after the city's chief of public security, Raymundo Collins, showed up at the crime scene, video footage broadcast on TV showed. Malcolm X's grandson Malcolm Shabazz was found beaten to death outside a bar there in 2013 after a dispute over a bill.

Officials in the Mexican capital have blamed the rise in crime on drug dealing and protection rackets, while the government claims that at least one of the city's violent gangs is connected to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.

In August, police arrested the presumed leader of the gang, Roberto Moyado Esparza "El Betito".

"It was not random", he said.
