Umpire Carlos Ramos at the Davis Cup

He took a 6-1 lead in the second set tiebreak in superb fashion only to crumble under Querrey's onslaught with the American world number 61 winning seven straight points.

Croatia will now take on defending champions France in November's final, which will be hosted by the French.

Tiafoe made his opponent work hard in the third before the Croatian won the tiebreaker 7-5 to give his country a solid lead after day one.

Ramos issued a code violation to Croatia after Marin Cilic slammed his racquet to the clay and mangled the frame during his Davis Cup loss to Sam Querrey on Sunday.

Ramos is the same umpire that was accused of being "sexist" by Serena Williams after he handed her a game penalty during her US Open final defeat earlier this month.

Croatia reached the Davis Cup final after Borna Coric beat Frances Tiafoe in over four hours to secure a 3-2 victory over the United States. "That's all I can say", Ramos told The Associated Press on Friday.

Cilic won the opener following a tie-break, but squandered five set points in the second breaker to allow Querrey to level. "Considering my year, it's been tough lately so this is a huge boost".

Ford wants FBI investigation before testifying
The Senate Judiciary Committee , which is overseeing the nomination, had called a hearing for Monday to look into the allegations. "I don't think Federal Bureau of Investigation really should be involved because they don't want to be involved", Trump said .

Querrey had never beaten Cilic in six previous meetings and, for a player whose ranking has fallen from 11th to No. 61 this year, it was an exceptional result.
