Trump defends Supreme Court pick after sex assault allegation

Brett Kavanaugh

Indeed, the mounting right-wing fury at Ford is so great that at least one completely different professor who shares her name was targeted online after GOP trolls mistakenly went after her.

But in the days since she publicly accused Kavanaugh of the assault when they were teens at a party 35 years ago, the lawyers said, she has been the target of "vicious harassment and even death threats".

"I would really want to see her".

President Donald Trump gave Kavanaugh a ringing new endorsement Tuesday, saying he felt "so badly" that Kavanaugh is facing scrutiny over allegations that he assaulted a teenage girl when both were in high school.

If he ordered such a review, it would be likely to delay a confirmation vote until after the election.

A hearing in front of the committee is scheduled for Monday, but details remain tentative.

But Ford's account is quite credible. Judge Kavanaugh has also said he is willing to testify. "That you are worth less than a man's promotion".

Ford and her attorney have yet to respond to invitations to testify at a public hearing about her allegations against Kavanaugh.

"I think he's an extraordinary man".

The confirmation fight comes just weeks before the November 6 congressional elections in which Democrats are seeking to take control of Congress from Trump's party and work to stymie the president's agenda. "I hope Republican Voters, and others, are watching and studying, the Democrats Playbook".

"This is different circumstances, occurring in a whole different time", says Manley, warning about "blowback" if Republicans try to overreach and impugn Ford's motives for coming forward.

Don Stewart, a spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, said the Republican senator doesn't have any immediate comment about the matter. He accused Democrats of being "lousy politicians, but good obstructionists" in their efforts to derail Kavanaugh's confirmation to a lifetime appointment on the country's highest court.

Hill's allegation Clarence Thomas sexually harassed her - and the committee's handling of his confirmation hearings - haunts Washington as a key event that alienated many women.

Emmy Ratings Plummet 10 Percent to All-Time Low
Especially in the first half of the show , a pall hung over the ceremony as if much of the crowd had been heavily sedated. While Claire Foy shed a few tears, Benedict Cumberbatch seemed like he couldn't have been happier.

Brett Kavanaugh was already disqualified to serve on the Supreme Court.

"This is a tried and true Alinskyite tactic that unfortunately Democrats have been getting away with for decades", Barber complains.

Grassley added, "Accusers deserve to be heard and, after they're heard and we also have a responsibility to hear judge Kavanaugh, and I want to hear from Dr. Ford, and she deserved to be heard, because these are serious accusations".

Ford detailed her allegation in a letter sent in July to Senator Dianne Feinstein, the committee's top Democrat.

Democrats are calling for a full FBI investigation of the allegation before a hearing, saying Monday is too soon. This term, the justices start without any blockbuster cases on their docket, said Irv Gornstein, the executive director of Georgetown's Supreme Court Institute. During Justice Clarence Thomas' confirmation, the George H.W. Bush White House asked the FBI to investigate claims of sexual harassment made by Anita Hill.

Clinton says that makes it hard to "avoid the appearance of insult" against Ford. But the president says Kavanaugh's nomination is "on track. Only then should the chairman set a hearing date", Feinstein said.

"Were planning on a hearing Monday". It can be open.

"I want to thank Dr. Ford". Jeff Flake of Arizona, a Judiciary Committee member who has clashed bitterly with Trump and is retiring from the Senate.

But the senator said Tuesday that he has been unable to get in contact with Ford and that she has yet to agree to testify before the committee. "I am, anyway, and I think most of us are".

He pointed to a correction in a New York Times article that said it misstated what Mark Judge, an alleged witness to the Kavanaugh incident, had said.

All 10 Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee urged FBI Director Chris Wray and White House Counsel Don McGahn on Tuesday to reopen Kavanaugh's background investigation and provide a complete report before the hearing.

The risks of a public hearing starring the all-male lineup of Republicans on the committee could be high.
