'Space Jam 2' Still Happening, Will Be Produced By Ryan Coogler

Twitter

As expected, the Space Jam sequel will star King James and Bugs Bunny, but today's big revel concerns the names behind the scenes including producer Ryan Coogler of Black Panther fame.

Coogler's name was included in a photo tweeted out Wednesday by SpringHill Entertainment, the entertainment company founded by National Basketball Association star LeBron James. On Wednesday, THR reported that Coogler will produce the film, and Random Acts of Flyness creator Terrance Nance has been tapped to direct. Some even saw James' decision to join the Los Angeles Lakers as proof that Space Jam 2 was a sure bet. "And I think Ryan did that for a lot of people".

And, if that is the case, then it could be awhile before Space Jam 2 dunks its way back to fans. But instead of Jordan anchoring the Tune Squad, the Looney Tunes" basketball team will feature a different NBA icon: "none other than LeBron James.

"I loved his vision for Black Panther", James told the Hollywood Reporter.

Gareth Bale: Real Madrid more relaxed without Ronaldo
Julen Lopetegui will be hoping Welsh winger Gareth Bale continues his fine form on Tuesday - the superstar has contributed to six goals in five matches in so far this season.

In 2016, the original Space Jam director Joe Pytka revealed that Tiger Woods was once planned to lead the sequel.

James has been expanding into the entertainment industry in recent years, appearing in a supporting role in Trainwreck and executive producing and starring in the HBO docuseries The Shop.

Coogler's attachment comes in the wake of the blockbuster success of "Black Panther", which grossed more than $1.3 billion worldwide. It's not clear how much hands-on involvement Coogler will have with the film, but just having him involved at all gives Space Jam 2 a huge boost. We'll be sure to keep you posted as new details are made available.
