Kavanaugh accuser looks to negotiate conditions to testify later next week

Christine Blasey Ford's offer to testify before the Senate next week - if she and Senate Judiciary Committee Republicans can agree to terms - sets up a potential showdown that could imperil what had been the nearly certain confirmation of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

Dr. Ford has stated that she's willing to testify in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee if required, and while Republicans have cautiously said they want that to happen... they're also pressing to move forward with Kavanaugh's SCOTUS confirmation vote.

Ford accused Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her at a high school party in 1982, when she was 15.

In addition to security, expected to be provided by Capitol Police, Ford has asked for press coverage of her testimony to be the same as for Kavanaugh.

"Brett Kavanaugh, and I'm not saying anything about anybody else, Brett Kavanaugh is one of the finest human beings you will ever have the privilege of knowing or meeting", Trump said.

They specifically criticized Republicans for rushing the process and accused some GOP senators of making up their minds before hearing Blasey Ford out.

Continuing his attack on Kavanaugh's accuser, Trump tweeted, "The radical left lawyers want the Federal Bureau of Investigation to get involved NOW".

Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, has scheduled a hearing for Monday morning, and he and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., have indicated it would be Ford's only chance to make her case. "They've delayed it a week already. they have to get on with it".

As the Senate Judiciary Committee works to schedule public hearings on the accusation next week, it's not yet clear if Ford will testify.

Brent for November settlement fell 9 cents to $78.09 a barrel on the ICE Futures Europe exchange. There are signs, however, that Saudi Arabian exports did not increase in July.

The Senate Judiciary committee has given Ford's attorneys a 10 p.m. deadline on Friday to respond to their offer to testify next Wednesday about the incident, according to a Republican source familiar with the discussions.

Kavanaugh has denied the allegation and said he would testify to that under oath. In the call, she said Ford needs time to secure her family, prepare her testimony and travel to Washington.

After initially saying through a lawyer on Monday that she was willing to appear, Ms Ford has since said she first wants a full FBI investigation of her accusation.

Before the rally, Trump told Hannity that he thinks "it's a sad situation" and said that Kavanaugh is an "outstanding person". The allegation has jarred Kavanaugh's prospects for winning Senate confirmation to be a justice, which until Ford's emergence last week had seemed all but certain.

Perkins noted that evangelical Christian voters turned out to vote for Donald Trump in 2016 due to Trump's promise to nominate originalist judges to the Supreme Court.

Attorney Debra Katz said anew that Ford, 51, a psychology professor in California, has received death threats and for safety reasons has relocated her family.

"Judge Kavanaugh will be on the United States Supreme Court", he said to applause. In a letter of his own, Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley declined to postpone, arguing that it was the responsibility of the committee, not the FBI, to investigate the allegation, and that hearing her testimony was a crucial step in that process that should not be delayed.

"I knew them both, and socialized with" the other classmate, Ford said, adding that she had once visited him in the hospital. "We're going to plow right through it and do our jobs". Be sure to let us know in the comments section, below. Kavanaugh's confirmation to the lifetime position would be the second of the Trump administration and solidify conservative control of the nation's top court. They left the seat vacant for a record 422 days, while now pushing to confirm Kavanaugh before the court sits on October 1 - a month before the party's political fortunes could change in the midterm elections.

By refusing to call Mark Judge as a witness, and refusing to direct the FBI to investigate, Republican members of the Senate Judiciary Committee and the president are in lockstep.
