Flake confronted by two female protesters after announcing he'll back Kavanaugh

Ford testifies before a Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing for Kavanaugh on Capitol Hill Sept. 27 2018 in Washington

Flake just confirmed that he will vote for Kavanaugh today. Kavanaugh vehemently denied the allegations in his hearing on Thursday.

Sen. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., listens as Christine Blasey Ford testifies before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday.

Kavanaugh has been accused by Christine Blasey Ford of sexually assaulting her decades ago.

She told the committee she feared Kavanaugh would rape and accidentally kill her during the alleged assault. Democrats are expected to oppose the nominee.

In according Kavanaugh the rating, which was released late last month, the ABA noted that it had evaluated him for qualities such as "integrity, professional competence and judicial temperament".

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham was forthright in his assessment of proceedings. Flake had previously voiced concern over Kavanaugh.

Moments after the hearing finished, Trump tweeted that Kavanaugh "showed America exactly why I nominated him". Why won't they hear from his college girlfriend, who volunteered her testimony?

The four - Republicans Jeff Flake, Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski and Democrat Joe Manchin - are seen as swing votes that could decide the outcome of the closely contested nomination.

Dutch police arrest terror suspects in a parking lot in the city of Weert in the southeastern Netherlands. The current threat level in the Netherlands is set at four, which means the chance of an attack is real.

Flake will put his cards on the table during this morning's committee vote, and it will then be much more clear whether this toxic, partisan, and emotional confirmation process will end with Kavanaugh on the Supreme Court, or with voters possibly going to the polls with an open Supreme Court seat on the line for a second election in a row.

Ford, who appeared anxious and nervous throughout, gave an account of her memories from the night of the alleged attack, with her voice frequently breaking as she spoke. Richard Blumenthal of CT made a similar comment, saying that "someone who is honest is also candid about what he or she can not remember".

After a procedural vote that could come over the weekend, the full 100-member Senate could take action next week.

The Hawaii senator also sent a fundraising email while the hearing was in session, prompting criticism that she was trying to use Ford's testimony to help her re-election campaign.

White House officials believe Kavanaugh's passionate denials of Ford's claims, including the judge's tearful description of the impact the accusations had on his family, met the challenge.

"For the good of the country and the future credibility of the Supreme Court in a world that is finally learning to take reports of harassment, assault and abuse seriously, it is time to find a nominee whose confirmation will not repudiate that lesson", they write.

The magazine's reversal is significant given Kavanaugh has repeatedly cited his Roman Catholic faith and his years as a student at the Jesuit-run Georgetown Prep school in Maryland.
