Google's YouTube Said to Be Hosting Videos on 'How to Hack Facebook'

According to Facebook a hack affecting 50 million users could also have given attackers access to other apps

Facebook has not said whether the attackers attempted to extract data from the affected profiles, but vice president of product management Guy Rosen told reporters they had attempted to harvest private information from Facebook's systems, according to the New York Times.

MPs have demanded that Mark Zuckerberg travels to the United Kingdom to face questions about his "terrible disrespect" for the data of citizens, following last week's data breach at Facebook that resulted in 50 million user accounts being exposed to hackers.

Since Facebook only just started the investigation, they have yet to determine whether these accounts were misused or any information accessed.

Facebook said they have reset the access token to nearly 50 million accounts that they know were affected by the breach.

What's more, if the victims logged into other services - like Tinder, Instagram, or Spotify - with their Facebook accounts, those might be affected to.

It's all thanks to a major screw-up in Facebook's code.

Facebook confirmed late Friday that third party apps, including its own Instagram app, could have been affected. You can also try deactivating your account for some time, as reactivating it will also grant new access tokens, while old tokens will automatically expire.

Moreover, you can uninstall the Facebook app and re-install it later, for that will ensure your old authentication tokens are lost.

The breach is very different than the crisis earlier this year that forced Zuckerberg to testify in the U.S. congress.

California net neutrality bill signed by Jerry Brown
Barbara van Schewick, a law professor at Stanford University and an advocate for tougher net neutrality policies, agreed. The Justice Department says the new California law illegally conflicts with federal rules.

The bug allowed hackers to generate access tokens for absolutely anyone on the website. Instead of logging in with Facebook, Google or Twitter, it is better to create a separate login (and different password) to all these sites.Use a password manager like Lastpass to store all your different passwords.

So it doesn't matter how strong your password was, or whether two-factor authentication was set up.

"So far they appear to have ticked the right boxes, but the breach is going to put further pressure on Facebook to validate how user privacy is protected". Several Facebook users (including the author of this story) noticed the odd occurrence this morning and posted to social media wondering what happened.

The hackers were also given complete access (as if they were you, effectively), and so could have accessed any part of your accounts. You type in your username and password, and click enter.

These 90 million users will be automatically logged out of their accounts and have to log back into Facebook or any other apps that use Facebook Login.

And even if you weren't hacked yourself, messages you sent to people who were hacked may still be caught up in the hack.

Rosen would not confirm whether the breach was state-backed, but added the hackers "did need a certain level in order for attacker not only get access but to pivot on the access tokens".

Have the attackers stolen your personal information? There you will see a hyperlinked text saying "Where you're logged in".
