New Jersey man dies after contracting brain-eating parasite

The BSR Surf Resort voluntarily closed down its wave pool after a surfer infected with Naegleria fowleri died since visiting the park. CDC is working to determine the source of the amoeba

It's unclear if the park remained closed Sunday morning and the CDC did not immediately respond to The Associated Press' call seeking information on whether others who visited could have Naegleria fowleri.

BSR Cable Park voluntarily closed after the CDC required testing of its waters after learning that a New Jersey man, who recently died, had been a guest at the park.

Fabrizio "Fab" Stabile, 29, of Ventnor, N.J., died September 21 - five days after complaining of a severe, sudden headache.

Four days after the initial symptoms appeared, Stabile's family received the devastating news that he had tested positive for Naegleria fowleri, an extremely rare brain-eating amoeba that kills 98 percent of infected persons.

Mr Parsons said Mr Stabile had been in the park's wave pool.

But the Trump Administration has said that sanctions should stay in place until North Korea denuclearises. He said the continued sanctions are "deepening our mistrust" and deadlocking the current diplomacy.

The amoeba is typically found in fresh water, especially warmer water such as lakes, rivers and hot springs. Once the amoeba enters the nose, it travels to the brain where it causes PAM, which is usually fatal.

BSR Cable Park owner Stuart E. Parsons Jr. said it will continue to comply with requests related to the investigation of Fabrizio Stabile's death.

Naegleria fowleri is a microscopic amoeba which is a single-celled living organism.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is reportedly testing BSR Cable Park's Surf Resort for Naegleria fowleri. He said the surf resort is in compliance with the CDC's "guidelines and recommendations concerning Naegleria fowleri". "We hope to have results by the end of the week", Waco-McLennan County Public Health District spokeswoman Kelly Craine said. "By the time Fabrizio was diagnosed, it was too late to administer the drug that had previously been provided to three of the only five known survivors in North America".
