Google Assistant Just Got Upgraded With Better Touch Support And Richer Visuals

Bigger visuals that are easy to glance at quickly. There are new controls and sliders so you can interact with things easily, such as smart switches and thermostats. Besides that, Google has also announced support for digital goods and subscriptions, and Google Sign-In for the Assistant.

Google on Wednesday introduced a new version of its Google Assistant app for mobile devices.

Developers who have built both voice experiences for the Google Assistant as well as an Android app can also let users access paid digital goods in both contexts.

Users now have controls and sliders to manage their smart home devices, including sliders to dim their lights and controls for managing the volume of their smart speakers. Open up the Assistant and swipe up on your screen to get curated information based on the time of day and your recent interactions with the Assistant. It has taken a while for these updates to roll out, but we've seen a few of them trickle in over the last few months.

This will definitely bring more value added to a product, which is expected cost upward of $700. It allowed the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL users to trigger Google Assistant by squeezing the phone.

The make-over gives developers and brands new tools to utilise touchscreen within "Assistant" itself. Starbucks has thumbnails of its menu, Food Network has larger images in recipes, and FitStar shows workouts with GIFs. A separate post on the Google Developers Blog noted the changes that the Google Assistant update brings for developers. Developers will also be able to monetize Actions on Google now. Additionally, with Google Sign-In users can use their voice to login and link accounts on smart speakers with the Assistant.

One of the companies making use of the new monetization feature out of the gate is meditation services provider Headspace, which now lets users of its service subscribe to its paid tier with simple voice commands.

Finally, Google Assistant will now work better for brands which want to use Assistant features.
