Farmer's "Doorstop" Valued At $100K After Incredible Discovery

Doorstop turns out to be meteorite worth $100K

But that all changed when she was asked to examine an oddly shaped large rock that a MI man, who didn't want to be named, had had in his possession for the last 30 years.

The man then chose to take his rock to Mona Sirbescu, a geology faculty member in earth and atmospheric sciences at Central Michigan University.

"For 18 years, the answer has been categorically "no" - meteor wrongs, not meteorites", she said with a smile.

"Within seconds, I knew it was a real one", Sirbescu said when she saw the meteorite.

The charred hunk of space debris is the sixth largest meteorite ever found in the state, and it's estimated worth tops $100,000.

"It's the most valuable specimen I have ever held in my life, monetarily and scientifically", she added.

The man, who asked to remain anonymous, obtained the meteorite in 1988 when he bought a farm in Edmore, Michigan, about 30 miles southwest of Mount Pleasant.

The owner thought little of it and kept it as a door stop, until recently when he made a decision to find out how much his odd rock was worth. They all have agreed to name it the Edmore meteorite, she said.

He also serves as executive producer along with, Filoni, Colin Wilson, and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. While The Mandalorian is the hero of the show, it's clear that he's not necessarily one of the good guys.

Central Michigan University The meteorite was reportedly found on a farm in Edmore, Michigan, in the 1930s.

While a space rock's size and what elements it's made from determine its value, all meteorites are worth something, and there's a large market for collectors.

David says the man who sold him the barn described the awesome tale of the meteorite making an impact crater in the backyard. The farmer claimed the rock had fallen in the 1930s and that the new owner could have it since it was "part of the property".

After analysis, the space rock was determined to contain 88 percent iron and 12 percent nickel, which is rarely found on Earth.

The man told Sirbescu that he kept the rock for the next 30 years, even after moving away from the farm. The Smithsonian considered buying the meteorite for display.

The Smithsonian and a mineral museum in ME are considering purchasing the meteorite for display, according to CMU.

As CMU notes, the man has pledged to donate 10% of the sale price to the university as a token of gratitude for helping him identify it.

Then, "I said, wait a minute".
