There are better days ahead - Theresa May declares end to austerity

Jeremy Wright speaks at the Conservative Party Conference in Birmingham

British Prime Minister Theresa May said she had not watched a speech on Tuesday by her former foreign minister Boris Johnson, preferring instead to talk about her party that she described as being in "really good heart".

"So why we can think that Ireland is going to be such a disaster, I don't know".

David Gauke dismisses the prospect of a change in Conservative leadership, saying that the idea of changing the Prime Minister so far into Brexit negotiations is "absurd".

"Do not believe that we can somehow get it wrong now, bodge it now and fix it later", he said to cheers.

As Theresa May jigged out onto the stage at the Conservative Party conference to give her keynote speech, I had to ask myself, last year it was coughing, what's the affliction this year - until I realised she was dancing - to Abba's Dancing Queen coming over the sound system.

North Shropshire MP Owen Paterson, who has pledged to defy the party whip and vote against Chequers if was put before the Commons in its present form, warned that the PM was becoming more vulnerable the longer she continued pushing for this deal.

Johnson's full-blooded pro-Brexit rhetoric has wide support among Conservative Party members, though the speech was light on detail about his proposed alternative.

We must show everyone in this country that we are that party.

United Fans Raging As They Trail To Newcastle 2-0 At Half
Mourinho reacted by making Eric Bailly the fall guy - subbing the Ivorian off after just 19 minutes in place of Juan Mata . Sources at United have told ESPN FC that they believe Mourinho to be increasingly unhappy and ill-tempered at the club.

"We need to negotiate on something based on the Chequers proposals", he said.

But she did her best to appear carefree as she sashayed on to the stage to the Abba hit Dancing Queen - a reference to the much-shared video of her dancing on a trip to Africa - and joked about the coughing fit and collapsing stage backdrop which marred her calamitous conference speech in Manchester previous year.

But the European Union is demanding new proposals from Britain before it signs a deal - and many Conservatives are in no mood to compromise.

May spoke highly of previous Labour leaders, saying, 'At least they had some basic qualities everybody could respect...they were proud of Britain...' unlike, she insisted, the current Labour Party leader. In and of itself this is a great accomplishment, yet in order for the Tories (or any other government) to keep on building on it, we need to see solid plans and actual policy suggestions that would provide better resilience to the vulnerable newcomers in the labour force. "First, honouring the result of the referendum. and secondly, to seek a good trading and security relationship with our neighbours after we have left". It mostly was focusing on a domestic agenda - jobs, the competence of the Conservative Party, which previously, it's definitely been known for, as well as just even the diversity of her own Cabinet.

"We are entering the toughest phase of the negotiations. She is putting her country before herself, which not many people would do". "A renewed approach to housing and education will lift productivity and improve people's lives", added Fairbairn.

"Because for millions of people, their vehicle is not a luxury". "If we stick together and hold our nerve, I know we can get a deal that delivers for Britain".

In a "no-deal" world the most likely impact would be a drastic fall in consumer and business confidence in the months following Brexit. Yes, she has said that austerity will end at next year's Spending Review following a Brexit deal (presumably if it's No deal austerity goes on), but to declare the end of austerity and then deliver a Budget of austerity a few weeks later will look absurd. So, it is no surprise that we have had a range of different views expressed this week.
