President Trump Speaks to Police Chiefs in Florida

Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein plans to join President Trump on Air Force One

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein is flying with Trump on Air Force One, a likely indication that his job is at least temporarily safe.

"I'm not making any changes", Trump told reporters as he returned to the White House after traveling with Rosenstein to an global police chiefs' conference in Florida.

"Gotta be properly applied, but stop-and-frisk works", Trump said.

Rosenstein is overseeing the probe, which is being led by special counsel and former Federal Bureau of Investigation director Robert Mueller.

Rosenstein, who oversees Mueller, has so far been steadfast in trying to protect the investigation as it digs ever deeper into Trump´s inner circle. "We just had a very nice talk". They did talk, for about 45 minutes, but not alone, a White House spokesman said.

"My administration will always cherish and support the men and women in blue and we are proud to do it", Trump told hundreds of law enforcement officials gathered for a convention of the International Association of Chiefs of Police.

"I didn't know Rod before, but I've gotten to know him", Trump said at the White House.

Chicago mayor Rahm Emmanuel is a staunch critic of Trump, and Chicago's crime problem is a frequent focus of Fox News and the president.

SpaceX launch and landing in California
Social media went into a frenzy in Southern California Sunday night after odd lights appeared to cross the evening sky. PT from California's Vandenberg Air Force Base, leaving a post-sunset contrail glowing in the cloudless skies above .

The report claimed Rosenstein discussed secretly recording Trump and using the 25th Amendment to remove him from office.

The President told reporters on Monday that he has no plans to fire Rosenstein.

The reports, which Rosenstein denied, fueled speculation that Rosenstein might be fired or resign. But when he showed up at the White House last Monday to meet with Kelly, he left the meeting unscathed. Their meeting two weeks ago was postponed amid the Supreme Court nomination hearings. The White House and Justice Department didn't immediately respond to requests for comment. But if he changes his mind, advisers have urged Trump to wait until after the November midterm elections.

Trump also said reducing crime "begins with respecting law enforcement".

The Justice Department began preparing for a future without him: Matt Whitaker, Attorney General Jeff Sessions's chief of staff, would take over as deputy attorney general, and Noel Francisco, the solicitor general, would take over supervision of the Russian Federation probe.

But even as Trump has made a decision to leave Rosenstein in place - for now - the matter of what Rosenstein said and proposed doing likely will remain a political issues heading into the homestretch of the midterms - and beyond.

Besides the meeting with Trump, Rosenstein has also agreed to a private meeting with House Republicans who want to question him about his reported statements on the president.
