3 killed as strong quake rocks Indonesia's Java, Bali

Search teams look for victims in the natural disaster and liquefaction affected Balaroa neighbourhood in Palu, Central Sulawesi, Indonesia, October 11, 2018.

On search and rescue mission for the victims of the deadly disasters, head of the national disaster management agency Willem Rampangilei said, the operation will be terminated on Thursday, which will be the 14th day after the strikes on September 28.

Kalla and Guterres visited Balaroa, where the force of the magnitude 7.5 quake liquefied soft soil and tore apart neighborhoods, and the coastal area of Talise, which was devastated by the tsunami.

A magnitude 6.0 quake rattled Indonesia's Java island Thursday, killing at least three people and collapsing home.

Prayers were expected in coming days at three of the worst-hit areas - Balaroa, Petobo and Jono Oge. "At most we can find maybe a skull, or some bone fragments", he said.

Organisers said police intelligence personnel had infiltrated the event planning team as volunteers, and subjected them to intimidation and constant surveillance.

Over 5,000 people remained missing after the deadly natural disasters.

Sulawesi is one of Indonesia's five main islands.

Facebook says hackers accessed highly-detailed personal data of 15 million users
The vulnerability enabled the attackers to get an access token for Tom's account as well, and the attack spread from there. The attackers then used some of those 400,000 accounts to steal the access tokens from a total of 30 million users.

Planeloads of donations have flown into Palu from the United States, Australia, the European Union and the Philippines, among many others. More than 80,000 people are living in temporary shelters or otherwise displaced, he said.

Humanitarian efforts have accelerated into the disaster-ravaged city, but the recovery effort was criticised for moving too slowly. The agency has issued guidelines that say foreign aid workers can be in the field only with Indonesian partners.

Some foreign rescue teams were prevented from deploying quickly to the ground to assist in the search for the dead and missing.

Our country, Nigeria and most of the African continent is not sitting on continental plates that make it prone to earthquakes and tsunamis, but we have natural disasters of our own.

"It certainly seems like the Indonesian government is wanting to ensure they can control which agencies are actually coming in to assist", Mr Forsyth said.

The recent powerful quake that rocked the Indonesian island of Java left three people killed, the Xinhua news agency reported, citing the spokesman of the Indonesian National Board for Disaster Management.

No one knows how many people have yet to be found but it could be as many as 5,000, the national disaster mitigation agency said.

A massive relief effort is underway in Indonesia with British Red Cross, Action Aid DEC Indonesian Tsunami Appeal and Save the Children among the charities and non-for-profit organisations appealing the public to help raise money for the hundreds of thousands of people affected by the disaster.
