Egypt coach Aguirre agrees to release Salah back to Liverpool

Watford

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp will be hoping Salah's injury does turn out to be a minor problem.

Mohamed Salah has returned to Liverpool after he was injured during Egypt's 4-1 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying win over eSwatini on Friday.

The 26-year old forward's night was cut short when he limped off with an injury in the 4-0 thrashing, but Hany Ramzy, The Pharaohs' assistant manager, played down the severity.

Egypt are now top of Group J, although Tunisia have a game in hand, and Salah is unlikely to feature when they travel to Swaziland on Tuesday.

"[Head coach] Javier Aguirre made a decision to allow Salah to return back to Liverpool to give him extra rest, as medical scans revealed that getting him ready for Tuesday's match would be hard", the EFA said.

Liverpool's next game is away to Huddersfield on October 20 when the Premier League resumes after the global break.

'During the previous match against Swaziland, Salah complained of stress in the muscle.

The Liverpool forward found the net in the 45th minute directly from a corner following goals from Ahmed El Mohamady, Amr Warda and Trezeguet.

"He was medically examined and underwent an X-ray post-game".

Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler defended Salah: "I'm not saying he's having a bad year so far".
