Hunter kills British mountain biker in French Alps

The shooting took place in thick woods near the French ski report of Les Gets

However, authorities have begun a manslaughter investigation which could lead to potential jail time for the hunter.

Marc Sutton was riding along a popular mountain bike track Saturday evening when he was shot and killed by a hunting party, Sky News reported.

It is thought the 22-year-old gunman, who was with a part of local hunters opened fire after mistaking the cyclist for a moving animal.

The name of the victim has not been released but he is believed to be a 34-year-old restaurateur implanted nearby.

It is the latest in a serious of shooting tragedies involving innocent passers-by being killed or severely wounded during France's hunting season, which started last month.

A disease that causes partial paralysis in children has impacted nine people in IL , the Department of Health announced. Health officials will never have a firm count of cases of AFM because not all states require doctors to report them.

Mr Sutton was originally from Wales and owned a local health food restaurant called Wild Beets Kitchen in ski resort Les Gets with his partner Jo.

According to the BBC, more than 20 people have died in hunting accidents in France in the past three years.

The restaurant owner had been settled in Les Gens for "a number of years", and had many family and friends in the United Kingdom too, said the sources.

Mr Sutton's friends are organising a bike ride in his memory under the banner #rideformarc, tying in with #rideforellie, which was taking place to commemorate Ellie Soutter, the British Olympic snowboarder who died on her 18th birthday.
