Turkish police leave Saudi consulate in Istanbul after nine hours

Word of the Saudi plan comes as Secretary of State Mike Pompeo flies to Riyadh to meet with Saudi King Salman about the disappearance.

A closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage shows prominent Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi entering the Saudi Arabian consulate in Istanbul - the last time he was seen in public before his disappearance and alleged murder - to obtain identification documents while his Turkish fiancée (not pictured) waits outside in Turkey.

Turkish officials say they fear a Saudi hit team killed and dismembered the Washington Post contributor.

"Per two sources who spoke to CNN, however, the Saudis are preparing a report admitting that they meant to abduct and bring Khashoggi back to Saudi Arabia, but that he was inadvertently killed in the process". The Saudi government could not be reached immediately for comment on the CNN report.

Asked if he had reviewed the purported recording of Khashoggi's killing, Trump told reporters on Saturday: "I have not".

The Wall Street Journal, citing people familiar with the matter, also said the kingdom is weighing whether to say that rogue operatives killed Khashoggi by mistake during an interrogation.

The Saudi Gazette trumpeted: "Enough Is Enough", while the Arab News said: "Saudi Arabia "will not be bullied".

Meanwhile, more major players in worldwide finance and industry are pulling out of a high-profile business conference in Saudi Arabia.

But Saudi Arabia strongly rejects he was killed inside the mission.

Thibodeau has said any deal must be in the best interest of the Timberwolves. "I'm all for what Jimmy is trying to do over there". Then Dion Waiters was going to be the cap filler, and then a protected first-round pick. "Everything is so public now".

"So far the oil market is withstanding the verbal war and though prices are slightly higher. they are a good $5 below the peak last week", said Fiona Cincotta, analyst at City Index.

However, it remained unclear what evidence, if any, would remain after almost two weeks since Khashoggi's disappearance. Saudi Arabia, meanwhile, said King Salman thanked Erdogan "for welcoming the kingdom's proposal" for forming the working group. Democratic lawmakers criticized Trump for using the term "rogue killers". "There's not enough money in the world for us to buy back our credibility on human rights if we do not move forward and take swift action", Rubio said.

"Absolutely extraordinary they were able to enlist the President of the United States as their PR agent to float it". The possibility of a Saudi shift in explanation is expected to be discussed directly with Pompeo.

Mr Trump has said Saudi Arabia could face "severe punishment" if it was proven it was involved in Khashoggi's disappearance.

Early on Tuesday, Turkish police left the Saudi consulate where Mr Khashoggi was last seen after an overnight search.

A security official holds barriers during the arrival of Saudi officials at Saudi Arabia's consulate in Istanbul, Turkey October 15, 2018. "There's something really awful and disgusting about that if that were the case", he said, referring to allegations by Turkish authorities that Saudi Arabia was involved.

President Trump tweeted Monday morning that he had spoken by phone with King Salman of Saudi Arabia and that the king "denies any knowledge of whatever may have happened" to Khashoggi. European allies have urged "a credible investigation" and accountability for those responsible.

Where is Jamal Khashoggi?...

Investigators have been arriving at the building in Istanbul - first a Saudi team followed by Turkish forensic police.
