ALCS: Bradley Jr. powers Red Sox to 2-1 series lead

Astros employee removed may have been spying

Down 2-1 in the best-of-seven American League Championship Series, the Houston Astros have been dealt another blow - a complaint filed to Major League Baseball alleging a man associated with the Astros surreptitiously tried filming the Indians' dugout during a playoff game last week.

After the Indians lost the American League Division Series to the Astros in a three-game sweep last week, Cleveland said a man was seen with a cellphone standing by the photographer's pit at Progressive Field, the Indians' home park, October 8.

"I brought this issue to Major League Baseball past year and thought that for pace of game, that could probably save 20 minutes a game", Verlander said.

Yahoo! obtained a photo of the man in question from Game 1 of the ALCS, Kyle McLaughlin, pointing a cell phone into the Indians' dugout during Houston's 11-3 series-clinching win.

The Red Sox were reportedly given a heads up about Houston by the Cleveland Indians after they had a similar situation with the Astros in the ALDS.

With the Red Sox deep into the postseason and now facing the equally analytically minded Astros, those little edges come at a premium. "So I mean we do a good job changing sequences and paying attention to details".

And we don't get caught up in the whole paranoia thing [with] the signs. Catchers have always communicated with pitchers using hand signals, and anyone steal those signs could alert the hitter as to what kind of pitch to expect. "We try to slow it down and if we feel there's something going on, we try to switch the signs". While he doesn't cite specific teams that have been placed under the microscope, it's worth remembering that the Red Sox themselves were fined in 2017 for illegal use of an Apple Watch in the dugout in an effort to steal signs from the division-rival Yankees.

"It's not going to help pitch tipping, but I think it will help a lot with the sign stuff".

Earlier this season, Indians pitcher Trevor Bauer intimated on Twitter that Houston's pitchers may have been using banned substances to improve the spin on their pitches.

MLB's statement confirms McLaughlin, the Astros employee, was monitoring the other team's dugout to ensure they were not violating any rules. "They'll do what they have to do, but I just heard it today".
