FBI conducting criminal investigation into Tesla

Tesla's Elon Musk made five big assertions — with asterisks

The DOJ did not respond to CNN Business's request for comment.

Tesla spokesman Kamran Mumtaz has said that Tesla has not received a formal subpoena, request for testimony, or any other official process.

Any expansion of the FBI's probe comes as Musk faces pressure to deliver consistent production of the Model 3 at a profit.

Asked by a follower on Twitter when the Model 3 would actually start deliveries in Australia - in RHD guise - Elon Musk declared it would happen mid-2019. It reportedly was not fully installed until September 2017.

The Tesla representative said that the company did not hide the difficulty of growth of production Model 3. The automaker made 5,300 Model 3s during the final week of the third quarter, less than the weekly goal of 6,000 it had set for the end of August.

USA criminal investigators are probing whether Tesla Motors misled investors about the timetable for meeting key auto production targets, a person familiar with the matter said on Friday.

The CDU result marks a huge drop from the 38.3 percent won by the party during Hesse's last election in 2013. Merkel's favoured successor is CDU party secretary general Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer.

It signals positive news for the EV maker after a failed privatisation attempt caused controversy over the summer, with USA regulator the Securities and Exchange Commission fining Tesla and Musk $20m each for publicising a privatisation deal that had not be finalised.

After initially denying the SEC's accusations, Musk and Tesla agreed to pay a combined $40 million fine to resolve the case without acknowledging or denying wrongdoing.

The Journal reported that Federal Bureau of Investigation agents have issued subpoenas to some former Tesla employees.

Shares of Tesla fell slightly following The Journal's report Friday but still managed to close in the green. The stock was down less than 1% in after-hours trading following the WSJ story.

Back when first Model 3s rolled off the production line in July 2017, however, Musk was talking big goals - and it's those stated targets that are now getting the Feds' attention.

The company has coordinated in reacting to what it called an "voluntary request" for reports from the Department of Justice in September, a Tesla representative said. Tesla is proud of the entire company's efforts in making it through the hard ramp and getting Tesla to volume production, the spokesperson added.
