The ‘sickening’ Trump ad that links cop killer to caravan migrants

Trump, Obama head to Florida this week for push in key midterm races

President Donald Trump at a campaign rally for Republican midterm candidates in Florida on Wednesday.

The video was reminiscent of the infamous "Willie Horton" ad used against Democratic presidential candidate Michael Dukakis in 1988 and condemned as racist advertisement.

Horton was a convicted murderer who went on a crime spree while on furlough from prison under a program supported by Dukakis, then governor of MA.

In an interview published on Friday, Mr Trump told the Washington Times: "I don't view it as the Willie Horton ad at all".

THE FACTS: No. This is akin to blaming Republicans for criminals who entered the country illegally under Presidents Trump or George W. Bush. Neither the video nor the president cite any evidence to support the allegation that Democrats let him into the USA and let him stay.

The spot includes expletives uttered by Bracamontes during his trial professing regret at not killing more officials.

"Democrats let him into the country", the video says in all caps.

It then shows the words: "Who else would Democrats let in?" flash across the screen.

Trump has dialed up the rhetoric on immigration, issuing dire warnings about caravans of Central American migrants heading to the USA border with Mexico.

Heidi Klum channels 'Shrek' character for Halloween
Some people work all year on their Halloween costumes, creating works of art, be it Voldemort or Sansa Stark. But with the holiday coming to a close, we can't help but get excited for what she has in store next year.

The Daily Beast reported that Bracamontes was deported to Mexico in 1997 under the Democratic administration of Bill Clinton.

The video tweeted by Trump did not immediately appear to be running on television - it has a runtime longer than most TV ads - although it received extensive coverage on cable news networks.

In a tweet, he said Ryan was spending too much time picking holes in Trump's idea to end birthright citizenship rather than "holding the Majority".

It is unclear who commissioned or made the video - but it can be seen on the president's Twitter and Instagram page. Jeff Flake of Arizona, a frequent Trump critic.

President Donald Trump says Democrat Stacey Abrams is not qualified to be Georgia's next governor "by any stretch of the imagination".

"This is fear mongering", Tom Perez, the chairman of the Democratic National Committee, told CNN.

An illegal immigrant featured in a controversial Trump campaign ad may have been pardoned by Trump ally and former sheriff Joe Arpaio.

As for the new video, though, the campaign was silent Thursday and Parscale did not respond to requests for comment. That video was timed to the one-year anniversary of Trump's inauguration and meant to promote his immigration agenda.

The widows of the two police officers murdered by the Mexican migrant Bracamontes were invited to Mr Trump's 2017 address to Congress. Barack Obama focused during his second term on recent arrivals and people with criminal histories, but Mr. Trump quickly directed that anyone in the country illegally could be targeted. During his 2016 campaign, he frequently appeared with so-called "angel families" - those who lost loved ones at the hands of immigrants in the nation illegally.
