LeBron James: Magic-Walton meeting 'not a big deal' to Lakers

Luka Doncic

Lakers coach Luke Walton is taking some heat from team president Magic Johnson after a 3-5 start. McMenamin and Wojnarowski noted that Johnson's tone was aggressive during the meeting as well.

Throughout his tenure with the Lakers, Johnson has earned an internal reputation for an often-time volatile management style, including with his handling of Walton and the coaching staff, sources said.

The Lakers, who recruited LeBron James in the off-season as they attempt to revitalize the National Basketball Association giants, have won just 3 of their 8 games this season. Buss has remained completely in support of Walton.

A day before Halloween, Lakers team employees were invited to gather for a costume contest in the team's facility at noon.

"We're still in the real early stages".

"We know where we're going and we know what it takes to get there".

"We plan on winning those in the future, and we're going to keep working and getting better and we're going to be just fine". According to Tania Ganguli and Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times, even though Johnson was mad at Walton in their meeting, he doesn't make "rash" decisions and Walton's job is safe. Johnson cited James' slow starts when he first joined the Miami Heat and returned to Cleveland and said he told Walton not to worry if there was a rocky start in Los Angeles.

"My message to the players was, this is what we talked about", Walton said.

Following practice on Friday, Walton was asked about his standing with the Lakers and he was very confident about his status as the team's head coach. "We knew it was going to be like that from the summer when 'Zo had the knee surgery". Obviously, we had the unexpected one when we had the suspensions, so we had a lineup change there....
