Karen Khachanov stuns Novak Djokovic to win Paris Masters

Khachanov hammers ailing Zverev in Paris Masters

Djokovic now progresses to the Paris Masters final and will play Karen Khachanov, an athlete he beat on his path to the 2018 Wimbledon Championships title.

"It's one of the biggest titles in my career so far". 'All of a sudden they do not happen for a while.

Djokovic briefly let his temper get the better of him when he had Federer at 15-40 down in the ninth game of the deciding set. And when they happen, you party like a rock star.

"I didn´t unfortunately. But I don´t want to talk about that".

The 22-year-old Russian has for some time been seen as one of the rising young talents of the sport but few could have envisaged his demolition of the Serbian superstar, who was on a three-month, 22-match winning streak.

"As I said for the French Open, I will decide at the end of the year to see how it will have an impact on my physical training".

The incident took place during the first set that Djokovic was leading 4-3 with an advantage while returning Federer's serve.

Remarkably, the Austrian's powerful serve was broken five times in a row by Khachanov at the end of the first set and throughout a surprisingly one-sided second. "I couldn't be happier to finish the season like this".

Chelsea's Maurizio Sarri: Danny Drinkwater, Victor Moses not in tactical plans
Every moment was done only between the Europa League, League Cup and Premier League but in the future it will be different. I think we need to improve and we need to improve with these players because they can improve .

The 14-time Grand Slam champion showed trademark resilience to fend off three break points while trailing 4-2, but Khachanov displayed steely composure to seal a memorable victory after an hour and 37 minutes.

"Karen played really well and he deserved to win that match", said Djokovic, admitting he had struggled to fully recover after overcoming Roger Federer in Saturday´s pulsating semi-final.

The 1.98m Khachanov secured a break for 2-1 with a crunching backhand pass down the line that Djokovic could only net on the half-volley.

The Russian dominated the match and won the first set 6-4.

"I'm going to be number one tomorrow, officially".

"The second thing is after some tough loses against top guys like Rafa in NY, I think they push me to the limit and even to work more harder".

Elsewhere, Russian Karen Khachanov ran out a comfortable 6-1, 6-2 victor against fourth seed Alexander Zverev in their last-eight encounter.

However, Khachanov, who had saved match points against John Isner earlier in the week, hit back immediately with assured hitting as he refused to allow Djokovic to dictate the baseline exchanges. "But 3-0, you know?"
