On this occasion Australian referee Angus Gardner decided Farrell made "enough of an effort" with his arms, deeming no punishment was necessary and allowing England to hold on for a 12-11 win.

The tackle led to a South Africa turnover before England kicked the ball into touch to win the game.

Erasmus proved that he is a man of his word as video footage from Springbok training shows the former Munster coach teaching one of his players the same technique that Owen Farrell used against Esterhuizen.

Australian referee Angus Gardner came under heavy criticism after he didn't award South Africa a penalty for what looked like a unsafe and no arms tackle by Farrell on Esterhuizen in the 84th minute of the match.

Farrell is now free to face the All Blacks at Twickenham on Sunday morning (NZT).

He told the BBC: "I can't see it because I think it would be the worst of all worlds". And a backstop can not have a time-limit".

Nothing upset me about the tackle we just have to latch on that if it is legal, it is effective.

"We will not be commenting on the video", Rumbles told Sport24 by email.

'If that's the only way you can stop people and tackle like that, and it's in the rules, then we should tackle like that'. The infamous tackle has the world of rugby divided.
