Falcons’ Bruce Irvin wants to be ‘icing on top’ for Atlanta defense

The Falcons will add defensive end Bruce Irvin days after he was released by the Raiders, the team announced Wednesday morning. Irvin noted he chose to sign for less money to go home to Atlanta. Less than 24-hours later, the Falcons made a move for Irvin, signing the veteran pass rusher to a one year deal worth $3.2 million dollars.

Born in Atlanta, Irvin's return home could be mutually beneficial.

The New England Patriots aren't usually a team to offer big free-agent dollars, but in the case of recently-released pass rusher Bruce Irvin this week, their offer was among the highest. He was a centerpiece of the ferocious Seahawks' defense prior to that, and he has been a durable and productive player even on the wrong side of age 30.

Irvin told ESPN's Vaughn McClure that he turned down more money from both the Patriots and Steelers to join the Falcons.

Jo Johnson Resigns And Backs Second Brexit Referendum
Even a no-deal Brexit "may well be better than the never-ending purgatory" that Mrs May's plan would offer, he said. The only alternative on the table, he said, is a no-deal Brexit that would "inflict untold damage" on Britain.

Irvin, under his breath, replied, "They're right".

The Atlanta Falcons are very much in the playoff hunt even after a miserable 1-4 start.

"Yesterday it hit me a little bit", Irvin said during his introductory press conference Thursday.

Seattle has 21 sacks through the first eight games, which ranks in the middle third of the league, so it could used Irvin's pass-rushing ability. A Super Bowl champ, he played under Falcons coach Dan Quinn in Seattle when Quinn was the Seahawks' defensive coordinator. After the game, first-year coach Jon Gruden explained his decision to keep Irvin on the sidelines for most of the game.
