LG XBOOM AI ThinQ WK9 is a Google Assistant-powered smart display

LG Electronics begins rolling out a speaker with a smart display that combines Google Assistant with Meridian Audio

The trend which started with Amazon's Alexa-powered Echo Show now includes smart displays powered by Google Assistant. One partner Google signed on with was LG who, 10 months later, is just now showing signs of eventually launching its own smart display. LG may finally be ready to join that select group of hardware makers, as it seems to be gearing up to launch the XBOOM AI ThinQ model WK9 smart display.

In any case, the 20W speakers that bookend the display were developed alongside Meridian Audio, and in an announcement today, LG promises that the WK9 will deliver "high-fidelity sound, precise vocal definition and accurate bass, despite its compact size".

Apart from working with Google Home compatible devices, the WK9 also works with the LG ThinQ range of smart home devices, such as televisions and home appliances.

The company joins Lenovo, JBL and Google itself in releasing a device with a screen, but LG is the first to offer front-facing stereo speakers on the catchily named XBOOM AI ThinQ WK9.
