Tumblr Blacklisted from Apple App Store for 'Child Sexual Exploitation'

Teenagers in a Tumblr

Tumblr is currently working with Apple to get the app reinstated in the App Store now that the illegal images have been pulled.

On Monday evening, it was confirmed that the reason was due to alleged problems with "child sexual exploitation and abuse" on the platform, which managed to slip through Tumblr's filters.

Presently, the Tumblr team is working to resolve the issue as soon as possible and hopefully will be able to restore its iOS app soon enough.

It later explains that child porn content, which had not been previously flagged in the "industry database", was discovered by Tumblr officials during a "routine audit".

Social networking app Tumblr has been removed from Apple's online App Store after child pornography was found to be visible through the app.

"We immediately removed this content", it said, and added: "Content safeguards are a challenging aspect of operating scaled platforms". While the company didn't say whether it's purging NSFW blogs as part of its efforts to make sure its platform is free of child sexual abuse images, the timing coincides with its removal from the App Store.

Mexicans Protest Central American Migrants in Tijuana
He wrote on Twitter that, like Tijuana, "the United States is ill-prepared for this invasion, and will not stand for it". Long lines backed up in Tijuana, where many people have to cross the border to work on the USA side.

Tumblr, like other websites, scans the images users upload against that database.

CNET reports that Tumblr was briefly blocked by the Indonesian government earlier this year over pornographic content on the platform. South Korea has also asked it to do a better job of moderating adult content on the service.

Apple's App Store guidelines strictly prohibit apps that share content dealing with child sexual abuse and require them to have content filters that flag those types of material.

It is fantastic how many parents leave on their Instagram location settings.

Ultimately the only way to be 100 per cent sure that you don't have a digital footprint is not to have any digital photos taken but this isn't a road the vast majority of people want to go down.
