Amazon disclosed customer names, email addresses due to technical error

Amazon says its website and systems were not hacked.

Customers have reported being contacted by Amazon Customer Service, which said that names and addresses were "inadvertently disclosed" due to a "technical error".

Just two days before the biggest shopping day of the year, Amazon has suffered a data breach.

Today's Amazon email leak notification comes after the company sent out a similar notification last month.

Amazon customers in the USA and Europe have reported receiving messages from the company, according to tech news website TechCrunch.

Donald Trump Jokes About Election 'Recount' During Turkey Pardon
The First Lady stood alongside her husband, President Donald Trump , as he pardoned two turkeys named Peas and Carrots. The turkey presentation ceremony is a tradition for American presidents, with the first ceremony taking place in 1947.

Others questioned Amazon after it told users there's "no need for you to change your password or take any other action, " fearing hackers still might try to use their names and e-mail addresses for nefarious purposes.

Many customers who received the email thought it may be some kind of email phishing scam due to its vagueness and brevity.

On the bright side, the email indicates that only email addresses and names were exposed - no passwords, phone numbers, or other personal information. But the company confirmed to Beta News that the issue is real and that it has been fixed.

Puzzled customers have been posting on Amazon's forums about the messages but, as yet, there is no official statement from the company about what has happened and how many people have been affected. However, it's a good idea to set up two-factor authentication on your Amazon account.
