Google Duplex Begins Making Its Way To Pixel Owners

Google Duplex Debuts for Select Pixel Users in the US Makes Restaurant Reservations

'This feature will initially be available later this year in New York, Atlanta, Phoenix and the San Francisco Bay Area to help people book restaurant reservations and will roll out to other USA cities in the future, Google said. We may see this experience evolve slightly as Google continues to troubleshoot and refine its operation, but this is already pretty exciting and we can't wait to see it expand and become available to new users, in new regions, and across additional devices.

As far as Duplex's current functionalities are considered, they are actually quite limited.

First, a user asked Google Assistant to make them a hair appointment, which prompted Assistant to make the phone call.

Once done, choose from the list of cuisines and pick the restaurant of your choice.

Meanwhile, U.S. residents will get to be testers of the Duplex experiment, which is reportedly different from what we saw at Google I/O in May. One will be able to do this by asking Google to book it for you.

Dire warning on U.S. climate change impacts
Report co-author Katharine Hayhoe says it shows the risky weather that scientists said will happen in the United States is already happening.

We're now ramping up the ability to book restaurant reservations through the Google Assistant over the phone using Duplex technology, . Duplex is also limited to the English language right now. Tap the "Request a table there" option to initiate the Duplex process. You can even use the feature to cancel a reservation.

At that point, Assistant will ask you to confirm the size of your party, your preferred dining time, some backup times, and the phone number you'd like associated with your reservation. You can choose from other contacts in your account as well. The voice, just like at I/O, sounds a lot like a real person, but a disclaimer is provided at the beginning of the call.

When Google first introduced its phone-calling digital concierge in May, some thought it sounded too human, while others anxious that it would secretly record calls with people.

Here is one video that shows Duplex in action.

Google has stated that if business responders reply on the line with "I don't want to be recorded" or a similar phrase, the call is handed off to a human operator on an unrecorded line.
