AirPods with wireless charging expected in early 2019

Apple is rumoured to be updating the Air Pods next year

Originally released in late 2016, Apple's AirPods are almost two years old at this point. Its hinge will also be reportedly redesigned to support changes in internal design, and to withstand higher thermal requirements.

Apple Insider claims to have seen a new report note by the analyst that revises some of his earlier estimations.

I've contended for a while now that the AirPods are the best product Apple has released in recent memory. It was also previously rumored that future AirPods would have water resistance and noise cancellation, as pointed out by The Verge. He does note that the 2019 AirPods will feature an upgraded Bluetooth specification, though it remains to be seen if this will have an impact on the overall connectivity and sound quality or not. This is most likely the wireless charging case that Apple first announced back in September 2017, alongside its still MIAAirPower charging mat. However, it makes sense that the wireless charging case - which boasts a green indicator light on the outside so AirPod owners can tell at-a-glance when the earbuds are charging - would launch alongside a new iteration of the earbuds.

A Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity means that the AirPods 2 would have dual audio support, enabling users to stream audio from two different devices at once using a single pair of AirPods.

Kuo says the 2019 update will feature "wireless charging support".

The wireless Apple Airpods, otherwise known as the "I have a new iPhone please rob me" earphones, are rumoured to be getting a wireless charging upgrade sometime in 2019 and an "all-new design" sometime in 2020.

/ The first generation AirPods. The number of units sold will increase from 16 million in 2017 and to 100 million by 2021.

The latest analyst report from Ming-Chi Kuo comes weeks after Apple updated a trademark filing in Hong Kong and Europe that referenced its wireless earbuds.
