Trudeau told Saudi prince 'better answers' are needed on Khashoggi killing

Senator Lindsey Graham, a Republican from SC who has often been a Trump ally, said the only conclusion was that Prince Mohammed, known as MBS, is responsible for the killing.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., and a close ally of Trump's, told reporters there was a "smoking saw" - a reference to reports Saudi government agents murdered and dismembered Khashoggi in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

Graham and Democratic Sen.

That was referring to the culpability of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in the murder, which took place inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

Khashoggi, a United States resident since 2017, was killed during his visit to the consulate to obtain marriage-related paperwork on October 2.

The strongly-worded resolution also holds MBS accountable for alleged atrocities committed during the war in Yemen, which Saudi Arabia entered in 2015 through a massive bombing campaign. Corker. Asked why the briefing was limited, he said, "I don't know". "The motion to proceed's going to pass, and we're going to be in a courageous new world", the Connecticut Democrat told Roll Call on Tuesday.

The war in Yemen and the broader issue of the behavior of the Saudi crown prince are not entirely related, and that will be the case that senators opposing the War Powers measure are sure to make when the floor debate takes place.

Khalid had flown back to Saudi Arabia shortly after the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul in early October, just as global outrage and pressure was mounting on Saudi leaders over the killing.

Khashoggi's Washington Post editor, Karen Attiah, said that he should be expelled from the U.S. outright.

"There's not a smoking gun".

Both advisors were dismissed amid the fallout from the killing of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi. They did so against the advice of Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, who said US involvement in the Yemen conflict is central to the Trump administration's broader goal of containing Iranian influence in the Middle East.

Saudi Arabia has detained 21 people and says it is seeking the death penalty for five.

The U.S. has slapped sanctions on Saudis involved in the murder. Graham is quick to defend Pompeo and Mattis, calling them "good soldiers" in his statement, but he throws Trump under the bus.

"I think there is an American desire to keep this at a certain level, to contain it within a balanced level, to allow the USA to project its power and to create greater advantage vis-a-vis the relationship with the Saudi government".

Another senator, Bob Corker, told reporters, using the crown prince's initials: "I have zero question on my mind that the crown prince MBS ordered the killing".

Graham, who is a member of the armed services and foreign relations committees, told Fox News that he he could no longer support arms sales to Riyadh under Mohammed, who he called "a wrecking ball when it comes to the Mideast".

But Graham said he would not support the joint resolution that would cut off military support to the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen.
