Costa Rican authorities discover body behind missing Fla. woman's Airbnb

Costa Rica

A security guard was also detained as part of the murder investigation, the Costa Rican Judicial Investigation Department confirmed to the news outlet.

The Nicaraguan suspect, 32-year-old Bismarck Espinosa Martinez, had been in the room next door to Ms Stefaniak, and made conflicting statements to police, said officials.

Carla's brother, also names Carlos, is reportedly in Costa Rica looking for answers to his sister's disappearance.

Walter Espinoza, head of the country's Judicial Investigation Department, said tests are underway to determine whether the likely blood and the decomposing, half-buried body belong to the missing woman, Carla Stefaniak.

Espinoza said the organization has sent fingerprint samples to the Federal Bureau of Investigation for absolute confirmation of the body's identity.

On Dec. 3, reports said that a body was located on the Airbnb property where she was staying. Her body, covered in plastic bags, was discovered Monday about 300 yards from the Airbnb where she stayed. "Nothing happens there. That's why she picked Costa Rica, ironically".

Friends said she sent photos of herself out on the town and she bought a purse and earrings.

Burton had previously warned that Stefaniak may have been kidnapped as an Uber driver who was scheduled to drive her to the airport said she had taken another vehicle there. "We don't know why the media is announcing the identity of the body or what Costa Rica officials are trying to do by not allowing the family to view the remains before announcing anything".

The last time her family heard from her was the night of November 27 when she texted her sister-in-law that the lights were going on and off. She was staying at the Airbnb. "Her family members are going to Costa Rica to try to find her, and any donation will help them in their search", the description read.

China trade vow after Trump talks helps settle financial markets
A Chinese official told the Reuters news agency officials were "waiting for the leaders to return" before publicising details. But they plunged Tuesday after Trump called himself "Tariff Man" on Twitter and renewed threats of penalty duties.

The body can not be positively identified by officials until an autopsy is performed.

"At midnight Eastern time, Burton texted Stefaniak to wish her a happy birthday but did not receive a response", Gardner said.

"None of us really believe this 5 a.m. story", Burton told Fox13.

"Every time we travel, she always used that resource", Jaime said. "There's no reason for her not to contact anyone".

Stefaniak, 36, was on a trip to celebrate her birthday with her sister-in-law and friend, April Burton.

Stefaniak hasn't been seen or heard from since Tuesday, November 27. The two texted each other throughout the day Wednesday, Burton said, until Stefaniak suddenly stopped responding to her messages that evening.

"I do feel guilty because I left earlier", said Burton. It is the same location where Stefaniak checked-in last Tuesday.

Martinez left his homeland in Nicaragua in June to work as a security guard in Costa Rica.

Jaime called Stefaniak's family, then the US Embassy in Costa Rica.
