Kevin Hart steps down from Oscars hosting gig, apologizes for homophobic tweets

Kevin Hart

Earlier in the day Hart's response to criticism over homophobic tweets on further inflamed a backlash to the comedian two days after he was named host of the upcoming Academy Awards.

Kevin Hart will not host the Oscars following an outcry over previous anti-gay tweets by the comedian.

He said: "I sincerely apologise to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words of the past".

Kevin Hart had said hosting the Oscars was "a goal on my list for a long time".

Old, homophobic tweets by Kevin Hart (above) have drawn scrutiny.

Like in the above video, Hart refuses to apologize.

"Kevin Hart, apologize for your tweets of old, or we're going to have to move on", Hart relayed about the call in the Instagram post. In an accompanying video, a shirtless Hart lounging in bed warily said he wasn't going to "let the craziness frustrate me".

Trudeau told Saudi prince 'better answers' are needed on Khashoggi killing
Both advisors were dismissed amid the fallout from the killing of Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi . Saudi Arabia has detained 21 people and says it is seeking the death penalty for five .

"I have made the choice to step down from hosting this year's Oscars" he wrote. Hart has since spoken about the joke, telling Rolling Stone in 2015 that it was really about his "own insecurities" as a parent, again reiterating he's not homophobic and saying he "wouldn't tell that joke today, because when I said it, the times weren't as sensitive as they are now".

Stop looking for reasons to be negative.Stop searching for reasons to be angry.I swear I wish you guys could see/feel/understand the mental place that I am in.

Rich Ferraro, Chief Communications Officer for GLAAD, has told The Blast, "GLAAD reached out to ABC, The Academy and Kevin Hart's management to discuss his rhetoric and record as well as opportunities for positive LGBTQ inclusion on the Oscars stage". "I am evolving and want to continue to do so".

The comic also continued to place blame and direct his ire at those who resurfaced his tweets in the first place, insinuating that they did so out of malicious spite or in an effort to gain temporary fame. "We feed internet trolls and we reward them". Hart said he "loves everybody".

While he states that he "love [s] everybody", he feels he should not be accountable for his past actions as people "change, grow, [and] evolve as they get older".

This leaves the award show without a host for the time being, although the search for a replacement is surely on. I'm thinking about what I did as a dad, did I do something wrong, and if I did, what was it?

"Guys, I'm nearly 40 years old, if you don't believe that people change, grow, evolve as they get older, I don't know what to tell you".
