Negotiations between Red Sox, Nathan Eovaldi ‘intensifying’

"He did a tremendous job for us last season, playing a significant role in helping us win the division and the World Series".

Right-handed pitcher Nathan Eovaldi has agreed to a contract to remain with the Red Sox, according to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal. Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reported a four-year deal worth $67.5 million. Eovaldi gets paid and the Red Sox secure their pitching depth. In Eovaldi's return, he was mediocre but showed flashes of his ace potential as he went 3-4, with a 4.26 ERA, 1.3 BB/9, and 8.4 K/9, over 57 innings, and enough to entice the Boston Red Sox to make a deal for the righty.

The 28-year-old right-hander posted a 3.33 ERA in 12 regular-season appearances (11 starts) after arriving in a July 25 trade with Tampa Bay.

One day after the Red Sox championship parade, team president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski sat in the press conference room at Fenway Park and declared his intentions. He made four starts against the Yankees, going 2-0 with a 0.39 ERA, and beat the NY in Game 3 of the AL Division Series, when he gave up one run in seven innings.

Boston lost the game when Eovaldi surrendered an 18th-inning home run to Max Muncy, but his performance inspired his teammates.

But he says Liverpool must beat Bournemouth to pile the pressure on them should they slip up on Saturday evening. And Merson thinks that should City avoid defeat in west London, they could go the whole season unbeaten.

"Nobody's going to remember who won that game".

Eovaldi had Tommy John surgery in 2007 when he was a junior in high school and his second in August 2016 while with the Yankees.

It comes as no surprise that Eovaldi is using his strong 2018 campaign to attempt to command a four-year deal. Eovaldi, 29, obviously has the big fastball, but also began utilizing a cutter more often, throwing it 32 percent of the time after first unveiling it with the Yankees in 2016.

If he spends the next four years pitching like he did in the playoffs, the contract will be a bargain.
