Instagram just completely changed how users scroll through their feed

It felt odd from the start, because Instagram did not issue any sort of blog post to explain the change. The horizontal feed seemingly only affected the main feed while it was active, as user profiles still used the standard scrolling feed.

Evidently the update was only meant to be tested in a small scale, instead of coming to a large portion of users.

Users across the globe are reporting the app switched within the last hour.

In a tweet, Instagram's Adam Mosseri wrote: 'Sorry about that, this was supposed to be a very small test but we went broader than we anticipated'. In the horizontal feed, you have to flick left or right every time you want to see a new photo. Instead, users opened the app after updating to find a message that said "Introducing a New Way to Move Through Posts".

Miley Cyrus Confirms Marriage To Liam Hemsworth, See The Sweet Photos
It comes after the couple lost their Malibu home in the California wildfires last month. The popular couple met nearly a decade ago on the set of their movie The Last Song .

Instead of scrolling up endlessly and seeing images from the accounts that you follow, users were encouraged to tap or swipe right or left to proceed through the feed (much like they do in Instagram Stories). "Tap through posts, just like you tap through stories".

The new interface was rolled out with warning to a large number of users around the world, prompting shock and disgust.

Regardless, with such a considerable change, many users have taken to Twitter to express their disapproval of the Instagram update, as well as appreciation for the quick turnaround. A notice simply appeared when the app was launched Thursday morning advising users of the update. And many have begun to speak out online about the change.
