Instagram briefly switched to a horizontal feed and users freaked out

It also introduced a tap gesture that allowed users to scroll through their content with a single tap, similar to how Instagram Stories work.

Instagram rolled out an update with a new horizontal method of viewing the feed, but it was panned by users.

Facebook Inc.'s (FB.O) Instagram redesigned its platform for horizontal scrolling - and the plan nearly immediately went sideways. The update, which Instagram PR declared a "bug", was swiftly rolled back, but not before igniting a massive backlash against the change.

Android users can go back to an earlier version of the app, but it takes quite a few steps and can be hard for non-tech savvy users.

Some wondered if it was a way to stop people just scrolling endlessly through updates by making them tap and examine posts before moving on.

Like us, many celebs aren't happy with the update at all.

N. Korea to keep momentum for dialogue through New Year's speech
The ministry plans to expand the definition of enemy to include the phrase, "Every force that threatens South Korea is an enemy".

A test change to Instagram got out of control.

"Sorry for the confusion!" And, just as feeds creeped in to every other app, it's inevitable too that the mechanics of Stories will soon be showing up in more places before you know it.

"Due to a bug, some users saw a change to the way their feed appears today", a statement read on Instagram's official Twitter account. This includes sponsored posts and ads users may not want to see.

One Twitter user posted: "Instagram removing the update so fast bc of the hate was the greatest thing I've ever seen a social media community do".

Instagram feeds are now back to working as they were previously. In October 2018, TechCrunch reported on screenshots being posted showing some users experiencing the change.
