NI couple to go public as £114.9m EuroMillions winners

The Euro Millions was lucky for one player

Mr Connolly said plans for the couple to relocate to England following a job offer in Croydon were now "up in the air".

Frances Connolly, who worked for an online magazine for the voluntary sector, said: "I've wanted to do my PhD in clinical psychology and I can afford to do it now".

Mr Connolly said his expertise is in manufacturing and run a small business before going on to work for others.

The editor of a magazine that highlights important social issues has now said he is delighted to have received the verbal backing of Northern Ireland's newest lottery millionaires.

He said he was retired for now while he decides what to do in the future while his wife said: "I am retired - 100%".

"We've grown from three teams to eleven and we've got girls involved too, so we're getting bigger and bigger".

Ahead of the announcement yesterday, there was much speculation in the tight-knit community of Moira, in County Down, over who had scooped the incredible £115 million prize.

They have agreed to share their winnings among 50 friends and family members. "This win gives us the chance to really make a difference for our family and friends".

"What an unbelievable win and year ahead for one lucky United Kingdom ticket-holder".

Mr Power, originally from Kenmare in Co Kerry, said it's "hard to comprehend" the amount of money they've won overnight.

"We don't really do excited - perhaps I raised my voice just a bit at the time when I found out - but we celebrated with a cup of tea and a hug", she revealed.

"There are no skeletons, there are no dirty pictures, there is not enough to keep us in the public eye", she said. "Then it started to dawn on us that it was true even though it still hasn't really sunk in", said Patrick Connolly.

But since finding out about the win, he has chose to retire for now.

The winning numbers were 1, 8, 11, 25, 28 with the lucky stars being 4 and 6.

The National Lottery said Frances and Patrick Connolly have become the fourth biggest winners in United Kingdom history by winning the entire £114,969,775.70 jackpot.

The biggest ever lottery win in the United Kingdom and across Europe was more than £161m in July 2011 by Colin and Christine Weir, from Ayrshire in Scotland.

He is the twelfth biggest lottery victor in the UK.

Deciding how far to spread their good fortune could prove tough.

Mrs Connolly, 52, said: "The pleasure for me will be seeing their faces and asking what they want us to do for them".

Cafe assistant Bernie Baine said she remembered serving him.

The couple lived in Hartlepool for 25 years.

Asked about hiring a bodyguard, she joked: "I've never met anybody I couldn't take down myself, to be fair".

She said they already had a list of around 50 people that they will be taking care of with their winnings.

Noting her leg injury, she indicated a huge mansion was not on the cards.
