Apple and Samsung bring iTunes and AirPlay to smart TVs

In addition to that, these models will also support AirPlay 2.

Coming in the wake of Apple bringing Apple Music to Amazon's Echo speakers, Samsung Smart TVs may be the first to get an iTunes app and AirPlay 2 support, but they're unlikely to be the last. So if you've bought movies or TV shows from Apple's iTunes store, you will be able to watch those on Samsung TVs without connecting an Apple TV box. And so, making iTunes available right from smart TVs makes a ton of sense, and the Samsung exclusivity is probably just the beginning of something much broader.

The move will give Apple another revenue source for people who purchase movies and TV shows through iTunes, and signals another potential slot for the company to place its long in the works original video content service, which is plans to introduce as early as this year.

Samsung 2018 and 2019 TVs globally will also gain built-in Airplay 2 functionality. It was not said explicitly but the statement makes it sound as if 4K HDR movies will be supported, too. They will also be able to purchase or rent additional content. Apple now has hundreds of thousands of movies and TV show episodes and also the largest library of 4K HDR movies of any service. Regardless, this is a big win for Samsung TV owners.

Expect Longer Security Lines At US Airports — Travel Warning
The number of people calling out sick have increased by 200 percent to 300 percent at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. If you have a flight to the USA coming up, you might want to give yourself a little extra time at the airport.

"We pride ourselves on working with top industry leaders to deliver the widest range of content services to our Smart TV platform", said Won-Jin Lee, Executive Vice President, Service Business of Visual Display at Samsung Electronics.

This is not exactly the type of announcement that you would expect the day before CES 2019 but it appears that the relationship between the two rivals is improving.

This is the first time Apple has opened up its closely-guarded walled garden and allowed third-party home entertainment devices to access iTunes video content. By cutting deals with TV manufacturers, Apple is moving down a path that is similar to the one Google has taken with the Chromecast and will be able to reach many more consumers.
