Hulk Hogan to commemorate ‘Mean’ Gene Okerlund’s death in special WWE appearance

WWE

Scott Stanford recently appeared on The Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling podcast to talk about the passing of the late great WWE Hall of Famer "Mean" Gene Okerlund and his impact on the wrestling business. Hogan said that he went out to the ring in character because that is how Gene would have wanted it and Gene loved entertaining everyone.

I hope that the company does a major segment, where several legends return to honor Mean Gene.

It looks as though another WWE Hall of Famer will be present on this week's Monday Night Raw in Orlando, Florida, but the reason why they will be there is now unclear. This fall hastened Okerlund's already failing health. Fans chanted "thank you Gene" and Hulk randomly asked a fan wearing one of his shirts in the crowd if he should "do it one more time".

Following word of his death, Hogan took to Twitter, saying Okerlund was "the best partner I ever had". I would always answer "just follow you brother" and it worked from 1980 - 2017, ' he added.

After the tribute, Hogan got choked up and then a classic "let me tell ya something Mean Gene" promo.

Last July, Hogan was reinstated to the WWE Hall of Fame and his likeness slowly began to return to the WWE Network.

Hogan was backstage at the Extreme Rules pay-per-view in July, where he gave a speech to the talent about being "not knowing he was being recorded".

According to a statement issued by WWE, Hogan will be returning "to honour his longtime friend" during the broadcast.

Chad Gable and Bobby Roode will also defend the WWE Raw Tag Team Championships in a lumberjack match against The Revival, with the Top Guys looking to become champions for the first time on the main roster.
